Public Organization Review. doi:10.1007/s11115-023-00701-91566-71701573-7098 (Online)https://hdl.handle.net/10321/4734University social responsibility is an intrinsic discourse in South Africa. Universities grapple with their identities relating to learning, teaching, research and community engagement. This paper explores how the drive for transformation particularly at universities of technology has promoted a culture of social responsibility among student and staff agents. Two universities were considered in the analysis of existing norms and understanding how institutions integrate the culture of social responsibility while adhering to mandates of creating knowledge societies. This study provides recommendations that could be endorsed as policy to develop innovative developmental strategies and enact new social responsibility partnerships within university spaces.19 pen1503 Business and Management1605 Policy and AdministrationPolitical Science & Public AdministrationSocial responsibilityCommunity engagementAgential forcesEnabling practicesSocial realismCan Universities of Technology in South Africa achieve transformation by promoting a culture of social responsibility among academic and student agents?Article2023-04-0310.1007/s11115-023-00701-9
