Item A study of the efficacy of manipulation as opposed to cryotherapy and manipulation in the treatment of tension-type headache(1997) Angus, Antony Keith; Parkin-Smith, G. F.The purpose of this investigation, was to determine what role cryotherapy plays in conjunction with manipulation headaches.Item The efficacy of adjusting the ankle in the treatment of subacute and chronic grade I and II ankle inversion sprains(1999) Pellow, Justin Edward; Brantingham, James W.To investigate the efficacy of adjusting the ankle in the treatment of subacute and chronic grade I and II ankle inversion sprains. The researcher hypothesised that adjusting a symptomatic ankle, in terms of the above, would result in a more significant improvement than that of a placebo treatmentItem A study to determine the efficacy of chiropractic spinal adjustments as a treatment protocol in the management of infantile colic(1999) Mercer, Catherine Anne; Jones, Andrew D.Infantile colic is a common condition in paediatric practice (Larson & Ayllon 1990) with very little consensus in medical circles as to its aetiology, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis (Pinyerd & Zipf 1989). The purpose of this study is to ascertain the therapeutic efficacy of chiropractic spinal adjustments in relieving the symptomatology of infantile colic.Item A study of the effects of chiropractic therapy on the diameter of the spinal canal of patients with low back pain and radiculopathy(1996) Beira, Bradley Stuart; Peers, Anthony V.Focus during this investigation was directed towards determining alterations in the size of the lumbar intervertebral disc in patients symptomatic with low back pain and sciatic distribution pain, in response to chiropractic management of this condition. The efficacy of chiropractic management for low back pain with associated radiculopathy has been examined. Flexion distraction technique and side posture rotatory adjustment technique of the lumbar spine have been used during this trial.Item The value of isometric and stretch exercises in the management of mechanical lower back pain(1995) Deall, Ashleigh Jane; Kretzmann, Heidi MariseMechanical low back pain is a common clinical entity which needs professional treatment (Margo 1994). Due to the nature of mechanical low back pain, recurrence of pain is a common entity that can cripple a patient and the ~tate financially. It is for'this reason that the professionals need to establish a cost effective method of treatment that helps maintain the pain free state and prevent recurrencesItem A study to determine the usefulness of the Gonstead Listing System as an indicator of the direction of adjusting the sacroiliac joint in the treatment of sacroiliac syndrome(1997) Moorcroft, Rayne; Peers, Anthony V.The purpose of this study is to evaluate the usefulness of the Gonstead Listing System as a reliable indicator of the direction in which to adjust the sacroiliac joint in subjects with sacroiliac joint dysfunction, in terms of their subjective and objective clinical findings. The hypothesis is that the direction of manipulation is clinically insignificant in causing a decrease in the subject's clinical findings. This information is necessary in order for chiropractors to formulate a more cost-effective treatment protocol for their patients.Item The relative effectiveness of spinal manipulation as opposed to exercise therapy on mechanical low back pain in postnatal patients(1998) Bailes, Brendon John; Mathews, RobertThe cause of postnatal low back pain is not clearly understood. There have been few studies performed to determine the cause, and several theories have attempted to explain the occurrence of postnatal low back pain. It is suggested that an exaggerated lumbar lordosis, laxity of the ligaments due to relaxin, biomechanical strain on the muscles and ligaments of the lumbar spine and pelvis and temporary compensatory posture are possible aetiologies of postnatal low back pain. (Calguneri et al. 1982; Bullock et al. 1987 ; Berg et al. 1988; Wisneski et al.1992: 711 ; Mantle 1994:799.)Item A study of the efficacy of chiropractic treatment in the management of functional nocturnal enuresis(1996) Grobler, Nicola; Kretzmann, HeidiA few studies have been conducted to investigate the efficacy of chiropractic treatment for enuresis viz: Gemmel et al. (1989), Leboeuf et al. (1991), Blomerth (1994), Reed et al. (1994) and Kreitz et al. (1994). The only controlled study was done by Reed et al. (1994), and even though it did indicate promising results it was not conclusive. Therefore, more evidence is needed to verify the success of chiropractic treatment for enuresis, especially in terms of spinal adjustments.Item Determining the role chiropractic plays in the management of tension-type headache(1994) Penter, Christopher Sean; Liebenberg, H. S.The effectiveness of chiropractic management of tension-type headache was evaluated in a single blind, randomised, placebo controlled tr ial us ing a pat ient populat ion of thirty (30) individuals who were suffering from tension-type headacheItem A study of the relative effectiveness of the lumbar roll and the spinous push technique in the treatment of facet syndrome in the lumbar spine(1996) Jansen, Petrus C.; Till, A. G.Lower back pain due to mechanical dysfunction is a common cause of pain and disability in mankind. Lumbar spine facet syndrome is a major aetiology in mechanical lower back pain
