Item A study of the efficacy of manipulation as opposed to cryotherapy and manipulation in the treatment of tension-type headache(1997) Angus, Antony Keith; Parkin-Smith, G. F.The purpose of this investigation, was to determine what role cryotherapy plays in conjunction with manipulation headaches.Item The efficacy of strain counterstrain mobilization in patients with painful hallux abducto valgus bunions(2000) Broodryk, Marie; Mathews, RobertThe purpose of this prospective, randomised, placebo controlled study was to determine the efficacy of strain counterstrain mobilization in patients suffering with painful Hallux Abducto Valgus Bunions (HAVB). The mobilization group received strain counterstrain mobilization while the placebo group received placebo laser. The study involved sixty patients; thirty in each group, which were selected from the general population. Each patient was treated five times within a three week period.Item The relative effectiveness of spinal manipulation versus spinal manipulation in conjunction with low back strapping in the treatment of mechanical low back pain, in the dysfunctional phase(2000) Broughton, Amanda Lynne; Kretzmann, HeidiThe absence of tested theory has resulted in a continued variation in protocols for the treatment of mechanical low back pain. This study was designed in order to determine the relative effectiveness of spinal manipulation versus spinal manipulation in conjunction with a low back strapping in the treatment of mechanical low back pain in the phase of dysfunction.Item The efficacy of adjusting the ankle in the treatment of subacute and chronic grade I and II ankle inversion sprains(1999) Pellow, Justin Edward; Brantingham, James W.To investigate the efficacy of adjusting the ankle in the treatment of subacute and chronic grade I and II ankle inversion sprains. The researcher hypothesised that adjusting a symptomatic ankle, in terms of the above, would result in a more significant improvement than that of a placebo treatmentItem A study to determine the efficacy of chiropractic spinal adjustments as a treatment protocol in the management of infantile colic(1999) Mercer, Catherine Anne; Jones, Andrew D.Infantile colic is a common condition in paediatric practice (Larson & Ayllon 1990) with very little consensus in medical circles as to its aetiology, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis (Pinyerd & Zipf 1989). The purpose of this study is to ascertain the therapeutic efficacy of chiropractic spinal adjustments in relieving the symptomatology of infantile colic.Item The efficacy of certain Labiatiae species herbal extracts (Rosmarinus officinalis, Salvia officinalis and Thymus vulgaris) as compared to nystatin, in the inhibition of in vitro growth of Candidia albicans(2002) Reid, Kim Louise; Steele, RichardThe purpose of this study was to determine the effect of herbal extracts of certain Labiatiae species (Rosmannus officinalis, Salvia officinalis and Thymus vulgaris) in the inhibition of in vitro growth of Candida albicans as compared to ethanol as a control and nystatin in terms of the disc diffusion test.Item The efficacy of detuned ultrasound compared to proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation of the gluteal musculature both used in conjunction with manipulation in the treatment of sacroiliac syndrome(2001) Paton, Jaqueline; Myburgh, CorneliusThe purpose of this study was to determine the relative efficacy of chiropractic manipulation used in conjunction with detuned ultrasound over the gluteal muscles compared to manipulation used in conjunction with proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation stretching of the gluteal muscle group in the treatment of sacroiliac syndrome. It was hypothesised that both treatment groups would be effective in the treatment of sacroiliac syndrome but that manipulation used in conjunction with proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation of the gluteal musculature would be more effective than manipulation used in conjunction with detuned ultrasound, in terms of subjective and objective clinical findings.Item The effect of camphor, naphthalene (moth balls), and electromagnetic radiation on 4cH and 200cH homoeopathic potencies of gibberellic acid and their subsequent ability to promote germination of barley seed (Hordeum Vulgare), as measured by a germination index(2002) Stubbs, Claire; Steele, RichardThis study investigated the effect of camphor, naphthalene (mothballs), cellular phones and televisions on 4cH and 200cH homoeopathic dilutions of gibberellic acid (GA3).The ability of treated dilutions to promote germination of barley seed, (Hordeum vulgare cv. Stirling, ex Sensako, Western Cape, South Africa, 2000 harvest) was measured by a germination index.Item A study of the efficacy of homoeopathic treatment in controlling lactic acid accumulation and exercise fatigue(1999) La Grange, Colin David; Walters, M. M.The action of homoeopathic medicine on physiological processes is poorly understood. It is hypothesized that homoeopathic potencies of Sarcolactic acid could have an effect in increasing the metabolism of lactate in the body, lowering its concentration change due to exercise, and thus reduce exercise fatigue. There is a need to investigate whether a homoeopathic remedy made from a physiological chemical can influence the action of this chemical in the body. Much has been done on the influence of homoeopathy on toxins, and their detrimental effects, but little is known of its effects 0(1 metabolic by-products and the influence of hqmoeopathy on their regulationItem The phytotherapeutic treatment of psychogenic impotence(1996) Brandsch, Helga Michaela; Boyer, R. P.The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of pnvtotneraoeuttc treatment on psychogenic impotence in terms of the patient's perception to the treatment.
