Item The efficacy of certain Labiatiae species herbal extracts (Rosmarinus officinalis, Salvia officinalis and Thymus vulgaris) as compared to nystatin, in the inhibition of in vitro growth of Candidia albicans(2002) Reid, Kim Louise; Steele, RichardThe purpose of this study was to determine the effect of herbal extracts of certain Labiatiae species (Rosmannus officinalis, Salvia officinalis and Thymus vulgaris) in the inhibition of in vitro growth of Candida albicans as compared to ethanol as a control and nystatin in terms of the disc diffusion test.Item The effect of camphor, naphthalene (moth balls), and electromagnetic radiation on 4cH and 200cH homoeopathic potencies of gibberellic acid and their subsequent ability to promote germination of barley seed (Hordeum Vulgare), as measured by a germination index(2002) Stubbs, Claire; Steele, RichardThis study investigated the effect of camphor, naphthalene (mothballs), cellular phones and televisions on 4cH and 200cH homoeopathic dilutions of gibberellic acid (GA3).The ability of treated dilutions to promote germination of barley seed, (Hordeum vulgare cv. Stirling, ex Sensako, Western Cape, South Africa, 2000 harvest) was measured by a germination index.Item A study of the efficacy of homoeopathic treatment in controlling lactic acid accumulation and exercise fatigue(1999) La Grange, Colin David; Walters, M. M.The action of homoeopathic medicine on physiological processes is poorly understood. It is hypothesized that homoeopathic potencies of Sarcolactic acid could have an effect in increasing the metabolism of lactate in the body, lowering its concentration change due to exercise, and thus reduce exercise fatigue. There is a need to investigate whether a homoeopathic remedy made from a physiological chemical can influence the action of this chemical in the body. Much has been done on the influence of homoeopathy on toxins, and their detrimental effects, but little is known of its effects 0(1 metabolic by-products and the influence of hqmoeopathy on their regulationItem The phytotherapeutic treatment of psychogenic impotence(1996) Brandsch, Helga Michaela; Boyer, R. P.The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of pnvtotneraoeuttc treatment on psychogenic impotence in terms of the patient's perception to the treatment.Item The efficacy of different methods of preparation of ultra high dilutions of gibberellic acid on the synthesis of alpha-amylase in de- embryonated endosperm halves of barley seed(2002) Balding, Tamara Jane; Steele, RichardThe mode of action of homoeopathic remedies is not well understood and is questioned by the scientific community due to the high degree of dilution of such remedies. The method by which remedies are produced is thought to instill the efficacy into these remedies. This research examines whether effective homoeopathic remedies may be prepared by electromagnetic induction, by serial dilution alone, or by conventional Hahnemannian production, which includes succussion. These methods were investigated in terms of the ability of dilutions of gibberellic acid, prepared by the above methods, to induce production of a-amylase by de-embryonated endosperm halves of barley seed.Item The relevance of succussion in the preparation of homoeopathic medicines(1995) Christie, Natalie Nowell; Kasan, Hamanth C.The aim of this study was to determine the effect of succussion in the preparation of homoeopathic medicine in terms of the methods of succussion and cell culture growth, in order to identify the relevance of succussion in the preparation of homoeopathic medicine.Item The efficacy of homoeopathic simillimum treatment of oral malodour(1999) Randeree, Aziza Muhammed; Lee, MoniqueThe purpose of this placebo-controlled study was to evaluate the efficacy of the homoeopathic simillimum treatment in halitosis in terms of the volatile sulphur compounds being measured objectively by the portable sulphide monitor and subjectively by organoleptic measurement\x87Item The comparative effects of the homoeopathic remedy Staphylococcinum, and Penicillin G, and the growth paramaters and enzyme producing ability of Staphylococcus aureus(1995) De Waard, Anton Hans; Macdonald, D.The purpose of this study was to investigate the action of the homoeopathic remedy, Staphylococcinum and the antibiotic Penicillin G, on Staphylococcus aureus, with respect to its growth parameters and enzyme producing ability, in order to determine the effectiveness of homoeopathic remedies on living organisms and to attempt a better understanding of how these remedies work. The hypothesis put forward was that the homoeopathic remedy would have an effect on the growth parameters and enzyme producing ability of the organism, but that the effect would be more subtle than that of Penicillin G.Item The effect of a homoeopathic complex (Candidum, Helonias, Mercurius solubilis and Sepia officinalis) on growth and germ tube production of Candida albicans(1996) Peckham, Allen; Kasan, Hamanth C.The aim of the study was to establish the effect of a Helonias complex on the growth of Candida albicans in vitro in terms of growth rate, maximum specific growth rate, latent period before maximum specific growth rate and percentage germ tube production so as to establish the area of action of homoeopathic remediesItem The relative effectiveness of miasmatic treatment as opposed to simillimum treatment in terms of the objective clinical findings in patients with acne vulgaris(1999) Van Niekerk, Karin; McDavid, G. M.The purpose of this study was to compare the relative effectiveness of miasmatic treatment as opposed to simillimum treatment in terms of the objective clinical findings in patients with acne vulgaris.
